Multi Functional Kitchen Islands

When designing the perfect kitchen island for your home the first thing you should think about is how it will be useful to you. Will it provide you with extra cabinet space, room to prepare and cook food, an area to clean dishes, or space to eat your breakfast meals? For some of us we need all of the above.

With a multi functional kitchen island you can combine several features into one compact area. The larger it the island is the more features you can add on to it. When designing one of these you need to be able to learn what features will work well together and what are out of place.

Food Preparation And Storage Space

The most common multi functional kitchen island design allows for a place that will allow you to prepare your food in one area and to have cabinets and drawers to hold all of your cooking supplies. You can have one that has a stovetop built into the top of the island and a small area on one or either side of this where you can mix and chop your food.

On one or both sides of the island there will be cabinets where you can place all of your baking pans and on either side you can store your utensils, measuring cups, and knives. Everything will be in easy reach for you while you cook and will keep you from having to scramble around the kitchen to gather everything up.

Cleaning And Food Preparation

Another great design that you can use is one that gives you the space you need to prepare the food and clean up right away. These islands do not have a stovetop – but rather a sink that is built into the top of it. The sink can be large or small depending on the amount of space you have and the type of cleaning you want to use it for.

Next to the sink you can have a large counter top where you can combine and chop everything for your meals. After you are finished with the utensils and cooking items you can place them in the sink and clean them before the food is dried on. Most of these also have cabinets and drawers built into them where you can store your dish towels and cleaning supplies.
