Islands For Open Kitchens

The main focus of our kitchen island design is centered around the type of kitchen that we have. The most common types of kitchens have counter space surrounding the entire space and closing it off from the room that is adjacent to it. The other types have counter space lining the walls – but none on the open end of it to close it off and separate it from the room next to it.

The is the perfect layout that you could have because it leaves your options wide open to design the ideal island for your kitchen. When designing islands for open kitchens you want to make sure that it is large enough to become the divider between the two rooms. The most difficult part about this design is knowing what shape it should be.

Unlike most kitchen island you do not want this to have sharp edges and to be in a straight line. This will look awkward in your kitchen and will be more of a hindrance than anything. It is better to have it curve the whole way around and to have much softer edges. Although this will cut off the number of cabinets you can have it will blend in better with the kitchen.

You will be limited to the features that you can use for this particular design. For example it would not be ideal to place a stove top into it or a dishwasher beneath it. Instead you want to build as many cabinets and drawers as is possible to provide you with extra space. Make use of the counter top as it will provide you with more space to work and to socialize with people at the time. One of the best features to add to it is a small sink – which will help you to clean up after yourself.

You want these to look great as they will be the divider and ending for your kitchen. The counter top need to look like the others around the kitchen. The same is true for the base of the island. Try to use the same or similar materials.
