When you have a larger sized or open kitchen the possibilities are endless when it comes to designing your ideal kitchen island. In some cases people are able to design one large island or two smaller ones. A dual kitchen island design is not uncommon and is a great way to provide the room with extra space for eating or preparing food.
The best way to design dual kitchen islands is to place them adjacent to each other – but a few feet apart. The first island should be set in the center of the kitchen and act as a place to store dishes and a place to cook and prepare food and even to clean up messes.
The other island should be parallel to the first – but set a few feet back. This will act as a divider between the open kitchen and the room adjacent to it. One side of this is perfect for more cabinet space and the other is an ideal place for people to sit and eat.
As you can see the two islands are similar in length – but they provide counter space for various purposes. While the first might have quite a few features to benefit from the second is primarily a place for the family to come together and eat at.
There are two ways in which you are able to design the dual islands. The first is to have them look exactly the same. They will be the same length, width, and use the same colors and materials. The only difference between the two are the features that they hold. The other way to design them is to make them look different so that the only thing they share is how long they are. By using various colors and materials to make the two you are contrasting them in a dramatic way.
This helps to make your kitchen look more diversified. Although they are designed to look different at the same time you do not want the similarities to be so distinct that they clash with each other. One great way to accomplish this is to make the inside island all white and the outside all black to match the rest of the kitchen.
